PLAYSAFE: Don’t Let it Happen to You
A valuable resource for families, educators and community groups!
A few seconds of fun in the wrong place can change your life forever!
That is the warning from the CHAMP Ambassadors who appear in PLAYSAFE: Don’t Let It Happen to You. Speaking from personal experience, eight young amputees share their stories about how they lost their limbs in accidents
and warn children to spot the danger before they play.
This unique "kids-to-kids" approach to safety awareness is at the root of the PLAYSAFE™ Program. The War Amps believes that no one is better qualified to deliver the PLAYSAFE message than members of the Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, many of whom have lost limbs in accidents while at play.
Child amputees (Champs) Rebecca and Adam invite viewers to join them on a SAFETY WALK™ to learn how to spot the dangers in their neighbourhoods. They teach kids that accidents can happen anywhere – even in your own backyard.
Along the way, they introduce stories from other Champs who live in urban and rural areas and who, like them, have lost limbs in accidents.
The Champs speak candidly about how their accidents happened and, in a message aimed directly at their young audiences, they stress the importance of staying away from “mean machines” like lawn mowers, trains, boats, cars and farm equipment. The
powerful theme song, Mean Machines, reinforces their warning: “Don’t let it happen to you!”
PLAYSAFE: Don’t Let It Happen to You tackles the important subject of child safety in a way that is both hard-hitting and positive. The Champs give helpful tips about how to choose safe places to play and demonstrate
the artificial limbs they wear to lead active lives.
“Spot the danger before you play. PLAYSAFE!”
