Russell Humphrey

Russell James Humphrey was born on November 2, 1925, and enlisted with the Lake Superior Regiment on June 22, 1944. He was wounded in Germany during the Battle of the Rhineland on March 9, 1945, when he stepped on a landmine, resulting in the loss of his left leg below the knee.

Upon Mr. Humphrey’s return to Canada, he became an active member of three branches of The War Amps over many years, finally settling in Edmonton, Alberta. During his years volunteering, he held the positions of:

  • President and Second Vice-President, Montreal Branch
  • First Vice-President, Toronto Branch
  • Second Vice-President, Edmonton Branch

Mr. Humphrey attended many CHAMP seminars and encouraged child amputees to accept their amputations while maintaining a positive attitude. For his service to the Association, he was awarded the Honorary CHAMP Membership.

He passed away on February 16, 2005.
