Mike Krulicki
Michael (Mike) Krulicki was born on July 25, 1925, in Kitchener, Ontario, and joined the Canadian Army in 1942 when he was only 16 years old. He and the other underage young men in his division were nicknamed the “boy scouts.” Mr. Krulicki enlisted with the Irish Regiment of Canada and, after receiving training, he set sail for England on the Queen Mary ship. In 1944, while fighting in the Italian Campaign as part of the attack on the Gothic Line, he stepped on a landmine and lost his right leg below the knee.
After several months in hospitals in Italy and England, he returned to Canada in 1945 and joined The War Amps. Throughout the years, Mr. Krulicki held many positions in the Association, including:
- President, Waterloo-Wellington Branch
- National Director, Waterloo-Wellington Branch
- Chairman, Membership Committee
- Member, War Amps Dominion Convention Committee (1973)
- Member, Civilian Liaison Program

He was known for his years of service assisting with the Civilian Liaison Program, where he visited new amputees and shared The War Amps motto of “it’s what’s left that counts.” An active member his entire life, Mr. Krulicki raised awareness about the Association and the Key Tag Service in his community and attended CHAMP seminars on a regular basis.
“The CHAMP Program makes me feel proud and great. The War Amps is the biggest part of my life. I love the whole darn thing.”
The War Amps awarded him the Distinguished Service Membership and Honorary CHAMP Membership in recognition of his work.
He appeared in a video profile about his life titled Mike Krulicki: It’s What’s Left That Counts. Mr. Krulicki passed away on February 13, 2020.
