Lorne Heath

Lorne Allen Heath was born on June 24, 1920, in Briercrest, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Saskatchewan Horse Regiment in 1940 and served overseas with the Calgary Regiment (Tank) in Africa and then Italy. While fighting in the Italian Campaign as part of the attack on the Liri Valley, he was hit by a shell while leaving a tank. This resulted in the loss of his left arm.

When he returned to Canada, Mr. Heath settled in Victoria, British Columbia, and worked in the automotive business. He became an active member of The War Amps Victoria Branch, holding various positions over the years, including:

  • National Director, Victoria Branch
  • President, Victoria Branch
  • Secretary-Treasurer, Victoria Branch

A strong supporter of the Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, he shared his positive outlook and knowledge with child amputees and their families at many CHAMP seminars. He was awarded the Honorary CHAMP Membership from The War Amps for his dedicated service.

Mr. Heath passed away on August 6, 2002.
