Lloyd Brown

Lloyd Brown was born on August 18, 1923, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and enlisted with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment in February 1943. In Italy in October 1944, he was staked out at a farmhouse while the enemy tried to shoot down his fellow soldiers around him. A tank that shot shells injured him with shrapnel, which resulted in the loss of his right arm above the elbow. He returned to Canada in early 1945 and was discharged from service in April of that year.

Prior to Mr. Brown’s military service, he was a salesman for a bakery and delivered bread to customers and stores using a horse and wagon. When he returned from the war, he was not able to continue working in his previous job, so he enrolled in an accounting course and took an office position.

Mr. Brown is a longtime member of the Edmonton Branch and continues to represent The War Amps at local events. Each year, he lays a wreath at the Edmonton Remembrance Day ceremony on behalf of the Association. Of this tradition, he says, “It’s heartbreaking to think of all those who lost their lives, and it’s important to remember them.”
