Jim Jenkinson
James (Jim) T. Jenkinson was born on October 9, 1914. He joined the Canadian Army in Parry Sound, Ontario, and became an Officer. In 1942, he was sent overseas and posted to the British Columbia Regiment. He was first wounded in Normandy, France, on August 9, 1944, and was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry and devotion to duty for his actions.

On March 8, 1945, Mr. Jenkinson’s tank was knocked out in Veen, Germany, during the Battle of the Rhineland. He sustained serious injuries that resulted in the loss of both his legs above the knee.
Mr. Jenkinson joined The War Amps and held a number of executive positions at both the branch and national levels, including:

- Member, War Amps National Council
- National Treasurer, The War Amps
- Treasurer, President and Executive Member, Toronto Branch
- Chairman, Board of Supervisors, Toronto Branch
- Chairman, Trustees, Toronto Branch
- Member, War Amps Key Tag Advisory Committee
He was President of the Toronto Branch during 1950, the year the branch’s Memorial Centre was opened, one of the most important and hectic years in its history.
In his daily life, Mr. Jenkinson was a banker and held a senior position at the head office of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). He was an avid golfer and liked to share The War Amps motto “it’s what’s left that counts” with new amputees.
He is the recipient of The War Amps Distinguished Service Membership and Meritorious Service Membership for his outstanding contributions to the Association.
Mr. Jenkinson passed away on November 15, 1984.
