Jim Ewing

Robert James (Jim) Ewing was born on September 29, 1917, in Ireland and immigrated to Canada in 1926, settling in Silton, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Army in June 1942 and served as an Anti-Tank Bren Gunner. Mr. Ewing served in France during the 1944 D-Day invasion in Normandy and was later wounded in August of that year when he stepped on a mine, resulting in the loss of his left leg at the knee.

When he returned to Canada, he became a member of The War Amps and served as Vice-President of the Saskatchewan Branch.

He was awarded the Meritorious Service Membership and Honorary CHAMP Membership by the Association.

Mr. Ewing passed away on June 11, 2011.
