Henry Mombourquette
Henry Edward Mombourquette was born on October 27, 1923, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He enlisted in June 1943 with the West Nova Scotia Regiment and served in the Italian Campaign. In February 1945, the Canadians in Italy were transferred to Northwest Europe to join the Allied advance into the Netherlands and Germany. While in Holland, he was wounded on April 13, 1945, when he was hit by shrapnel from an .88 mm shell, resulting in the loss of his right leg below the knee.
Mr. Mombourquette returned to Canada and worked as a Clerk at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital for nearly 40 years. He was a proud member of The War Amps Nova Scotia Branch and held several positions, including:
- First Vice-President, Nova Scotia Branch
- Second Vice-President, Nova Scotia Branch
In these roles, he volunteered his time for many Association activities and attended CHAMP seminars, where he enjoyed interacting with members of the CHAMP Program and their families. Mr. Mombourquette led an active life and had many hobbies, such as photography, travelling and boating, and was a fan of hockey and baseball.
He passed away on January 30, 2020.
