Harry Davidson

Henry (Harry) Davidson was born on June 3, 1924, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He joined the Armoured Corps in 1942 and served in Britain and Italy with Lord Strathcona’s Horse. While fighting in the Italian Campaign, he was wounded near Rimini on September 23, 1944, resulting in the loss of his right arm above the elbow.

When he returned to Canada, Mr. Davidson joined The War Amps Manitoba Branch and held several positions, including:

• National Director, Manitoba Branch (1979-2001)
• President, Manitoba Branch
• First and Second Vice-President, Manitoba Branch

Mr. Davidson was a dedicated supporter of the Association’s Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, having been instrumental in its launch in 1975, as well as having inaugurated the PLAYSAFE float program for the Manitoba Branch. He attended numerous Western CHAMP seminars over the years, sharing his knowledge and positive outlook with child amputees and their families.

A member of the Manitoba Branch executive for 51 years and a life member of The War Amps, Mr. Davidson was the recipient of both the Distinguished Service Membership and the Meritorious Service Membership, the highest honour bestowed by the Association. For his work with child amputees, he was awarded the Honorary CHAMP Membership as well.

Mr. Davidson passed away on September 17, 2001.
