1913-2015

Ernie McNeil

Ernest (Ernie) McNeil was born on November 17, 1913. In March 1941, while working as a Mechanic for the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan at the Brantford, Ontario, training depot, he lost his arm below the elbow. He joined The War Amps in 1947 and held several positions, including:

  • Treasurer and President, Calgary Branch
  • National Director, Calgary Branch

  • Honorary CHAMP Membership

Mr. McNeil enjoyed playing golf in his free time and inspired other amputees to try new activities. He was known for being a role model to the many Champs and their families who met him at CHAMP seminars or at the Calgary Stampede Parade every year, where he oversaw the PLAYSAFE float.

He was awarded the Distinguished Service Membership, Meritorious Service Membership and Honorary CHAMP Membership by The War Amps. Mr. McNeil passed away on February 24, 2015.
