1922-2013

Emlyn Roberts

Emlyn Roberts was born on May 8, 1922, in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, and emigrated to Canada with his family as a young boy, settling in the Woodstock, New Brunswick, area. He enlisted with the 17th Duke of York’s Royal Canadian Hussars in March 1943. In July 1944, his unit was bombed by a German aircraft, resulting in the loss of his left leg below the knee due to his injuries.

Following his return to Canada, Mr. Roberts worked in the Prosthetic Services Department of Veterans Affairs. He joined The War Amps New Brunswick Branch in 1946 and held the positions of:

  • President, Treasurer and Secretary, New Brunswick Branch
  • Member, Sick and Visiting Committee

He was recognized by The War Amps with the Distinguished Service Membership, Meritorious Service Membership and Honorary CHAMP Membership. He also received both the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals, as well as the French Legion Medal of Honour for his service to France during the war.

Mr. Roberts passed away on May 10, 2013.
