Donald Moore

Donald Moore was born on April 30, 1932, in Lombardy, Ontario. An auto mechanic by trade, he served with the Canadian Army Special Force in 1951, which was part of the United Nations effort to defend South Korea. He served as a Paratrooper with the 1st Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment. During the Battle of Kowang-san (Hill 355 – Little Gibraltar) in October 1952, he suffered a gunshot wound, resulting in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. He received the United Nations Service Medal (Korea) and the Canadian Korea Medal for his military service.

Upon his return to Canada, he resumed his career as a mechanic and joined The War Amps Kingston Branch. He was an active member and attended many War Amps conventions across Canada over the years. He held several executive positions in the branch, including President for a few years during the late 1970s.

Mr. Moore was involved in his community as well, where he was a deacon with his church and a volunteer firefighter. He never let his amputation stop him from living life to the fullest and enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and hunting.

For many years, he represented The War Amps at annual Remembrance Day ceremonies. Mr. Moore received the Meritorious Service Membership from The War Amps in recognition of his contributions to the Association. He passed away on April 20, 2024.
