David MacLeod

David MacLeod was born on July 16, 1925, in Brule, Colchester County, Nova Scotia. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a teenager and served overseas during the last year of the Second World War. Upon his return, he graduated with a degree in medicine from Dalhousie University and then rejoined the Air Force in the Supplementary Reserve from 1952 to 1965.

Dr. MacLeod was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery for his actions while serving as a Medical Officer at the Air Force base in North Bay, Ontario, in 1954. He lost his left arm above the elbow due to medical complications in 1962.

After retiring from the Air Force, he began a private practice in ophthalmology in Belleville, Ontario. Dr. MacLeod joined The War Amps and served as President and First Vice-President of the Nova Scotia Branch.

In recognition of his dedication to the Association, he received the Honorary CHAMP Membership. A talented woodworker, he built the Bluenose ship model that is displayed at the Key Tag Service, spending six years creating it before donating it to The War Amps in 2005.

Dr. MacLeod passed away on November 15, 2018.
