Charles Brown

Charles Brown was born on October 25, 1895, in London, England, and enlisted with the 95th Battalion (Toronto) in November 1915. While fighting in France in October 1916, he was wounded, resulting in the loss of his right arm above the elbow.

Mr. Brown joined The War Amps after his return home from war and embarked on a lifetime of diverse and faithful service to the Association.

He held leadership positions in the Toronto Branch, as well as on the national level, including:

  • First Vice-President (1924), Honorary Treasurer (1937) and Acting Dominion Secretary, Toronto Branch
  • Dominion Executive Member, The War Amps (1925-30)
  • Advertising Manager, War Amps publication The Fragment
  • Convenor, War Amps Finance Committee

Mr. Brown held the unique record of being one of the few members to attend all War Amps conventions during his lifetime. He was praised for having been an active worker in the Association since its inception and was at the forefront in all its activities.

He passed away on February 12, 1977.
