Bill Shore
William (Bill) Shore, of Ottawa, Ontario, was born on May 19, 1921. He enlisted with the Canadian Army in 1940 and served with Ordnance (ROC) CMHQ, 2nd Echelon, 4th Armoured Division. He was injured in Holland in March 1945 due to a mine blast while clearing bunkers, resulting in the loss of his left leg above the knee. He would later receive the Meritorious Service Cross from the Netherlands for his bravery.
Once back in Canada, he joined The War Amps Ottawa Branch in 1946 and served as:
- National Director, Ottawa Branch
- Vice-President, Ottawa Branch

- Meritorious Service Cross (the Netherlands)
In his personal life, he worked with Health and Welfare Canada in Ottawa as the Superintendent of Prosthetic Services. An avid golfer and curler in his younger years, he was a role model for amputees and encouraged members of the Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program to embrace The War Amps motto “it’s what’s left that counts.”
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Membership and Honorary CHAMP Membership in recognition of his tireless efforts carrying out the work of the Association.
Mr. Shore passed away on October 21, 2015.
