Art Fyles

Arthur (Art) Fyles was born on May 7, 1927, and enlisted with the Essex Scottish Regiment in August 1943 at the age of 16. He lost his left leg above the knee in September 1944 while clearing out a coastal battery in Belgium.

Mr. Fyles joined The War Amps Toronto Branch upon his return to Canada and held several positions:

  • Vice-President, Toronto Branch
  • Member, War Amps Civilian Liaison Program
  • Member, War Amps Sick and Visiting Committee

He was well known for having worked at the Key Tag Service in Toronto for many years. Mr. Fyles received numerous awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation, and the Distinguished Service Membership, Meritorious Service Membership and Honorary CHAMP Membership from The War Amps.

He passed away on August 29, 2012.
