Allan Bacon

Allan Bacon, of Toronto, was born on December 27, 1919. He enlisted with the Royal Regiment of Canada in 1940 and later transferred to the Canadian Scottish Regiment. On D-Day, June 6, 1944, his regiment stormed Juno Beach in Normandy and fought their way inland. Ten days later, he was injured in Putot-en-Bessin while disarming a grenade, resulting in the loss of his right arm.

Mr. Bacon attended business college upon returning to Canada, then started a career as an information clerk with the City of Toronto. As a faithful member of The War Amps Toronto Branch for many years, he served as Secretary from 1975-1990 and as Acting President until his passing.

On behalf of The War Amps, Mr. Bacon laid a wreath at the national commemorative ceremony for the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

In 2018, he attended a special ceremony at The War Amps Key Tag Service to unveil the Canada Post commemorative envelope, which celebrated the Association’s 100^th anniversary.

Mr. Bacon received the Meritorious Service Membership and Distinguished Service Membership from The War Amps. He passed away on January 25, 2020.
