1923-2015

Alex Alton

Alex Alton was born on September 26, 1923. He enlisted with the Highland Light Infantry in September 1942 at the age of 17 and fought in France, Belgium and Holland. While serving in Germany in 1945, he lost his leg below the knee when he stepped on a mine.

After the war, Mr. Alton worked as a linesman for St. Catharines Hydro and became involved with The War Amps. He held several positions with his home branch throughout his lifetime, including:

  • Secretary, Hamilton Branch
  • Acting National Director, Hamilton Branch (2005-2008)
  • National Director, Hamilton Branch (2009-2013)

An active man and accomplished golfer, Mr. Alton was an inspiration to other amputees.

He was a role model to members of the CHAMP Program and their families who had the pleasure of meeting him at seminars and through his involvement in the PLAYSAFE Program. He was recognized for his dedication to helping child amputees with the Honorary CHAMP Membership and for his service to the Association in general with the Meritorious Service Membership.

He passed away on June 2, 2015.
